Te Anau is a township of tranquil beauty, nestled at the
southern shores of a lake bearing the same name and also
New Zealand's second largest lake. The largest body of fresh
water in the South Island.

is 10 minutes walk from the Visitors Center and is home
to many native bird species, including the colorful rare

Visit the Lake Manapouri which is only 9 miles from Te
Anau. This magnificent lake contains 35 picturesque islands
and has been one of the country's most embattled lakes due
to plans to raise the water level for hydro-electric power
generation in the 1960's. The power station at West Arm
is well worth a visit for photo-snapping.
To top up your fun, Te Anau is the gateway to explore the
playground of Fiordland and is known as the walking capital
of the world as many walks begin here. Also at the head
of Lake Te Anau is Glade House - the starting point of the
Milford Track which traverses 34 miles of the Fiordland
National Park.
More fabulous activities based at Te Anau include flightseeing,
fishing, kayaking, sailing and horse riding as well as a
variety of trips on the lake itself. From here, you can
also visit the underground waterfall and glowworm grotto
of the Te Ana-au Caves. It will surely present you the best.
Te Ana-au Glow Worm Caves is a truly spectacular place
as this is one of the geological evolving caves in the Southern
Hemisphere open to public and are a rare opportunity to
see millions of glow worms.

By air

the West Coast, Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown and Invercargill.
There are also minibus rentals, Charter buses, Fiordland
Tracknet, Kepler Shuttle, and Milford Shuttle available.
