This large park is located on the south side of the city,
at the line 2 subway stop of the same name. The park, named
for Chile's national liberator, who led rebel troops to
victory against the Spanish, thus creating an independent
Chile in 1818, has an open area, complete with paved marching
grounds for military parades, swimming pools, and lots of
space to fly kites.
Street vendors sell volantines (kites) and string outside
the park year-round; high winds make September and early
October the prime kite-flying season.
