Kerela
a state in South India between the Western Ghats on the east, and the
Arabian Sea on the west. The most exotic place blessed with nature at
its best. The placid backwaters , the snakeboats rocking onthe water,
lush of palm grooves on either sides, its the most enchanting place.Kerala
is also home to Indias only virgin tropical rain forest the Silent
Valley National Park. The alluvial strech supports variety of
flora and fauna. There is a similarity between the fauna found in Kerala,
and that of the Eastern Himalayas and the southwest region of Sri Lanka.
The climate of Kerala it is hot and humid in March to May,October the
monsoon starts and December is winter. Temperatures in Kerala rarely rise
above 320 C, while the minimum temperature in the coastal region remains
mostly around 20°C. There are around 44 rivers in Kerala,
41 out of which are west flowing are originate from Western Ghates. The
most important and longest river is "Perriyar",which
is 244lm long. The secong longest is the "Ponnani",
originates from Anamalai Hills at an elevation of 196m. And the 3rd largest
is" Pambayar" or "Pamoa river"
which is 176km and covers basin of 2 ,223km.
The western Ghates rolls almost the entire length of the state with one
of the major gap of 32 km in Palakkad District called the Palakkad Gap.
This pass also provide necessary passage for the monsoon clouds to move
in Kerala. The higest peak in Kerala is Anai Mudi Peak
in Idukki district it is the higest peak in south india
Anai Mudi is also known as the home of the gravely endangeared Nilgiri
Thar.
