--Dances--
The intrigral part of Kerala are its dances. Kerala has whole range of
tribal, folk, ritual, classical and modern dance forms. There are classica,
folk and Trible dances in Kerala.
There are around different types of Tribal dances like Elelakkarandi,
Kadarkali, Kurumbarkali, Paniyarkali, Mankali, Parvathikali, Koorankali,
Thavalakali, Edayarkali and Mudiyottam, 50 folk dances and classical style
of dancing comprises the Koothu, Patakom, Koodiattam, Ashtapadiattam,
Krishnattam, Ramanattam, Kathakali, Mohiniattam and the Thullal.
In the trible dance lot of masks are used as the characteris depicted
by the mack they wear. The most famous trible dance is the Kolkali,
which is the dancer dance with a bamboo rods and dances rythmically.And
the ritual dance dances like the Kollam Thullal are mostly
performed in or around temples, the dancers act as agents of Kali,
the Goddess of War, wearing colourful attires and massive, masked headgears
that are simply awesome and these costumes are never ever repeated in
another performance.
The Mudiyettu,
is another dance the story of the the defeat of the demon Darika by the
Goddess Bhadrakali (godess Kali)and the danceritual is performed in front
of the Goddesss temple at night. The signifiance of this dance is Nanaveli
is performed to protect folks from small pox , the dancer's
body in the performance is plastered with husked rice and lime to make
him resemble someone afflicted with the disease. The interesting facter
of the dance is attires are the personal property of the artists who have
inherited them from their previous generations.
