The Tripitaka Koreana, at Haeinsa Temple,
is a set of wooden printing blocks carved with the complete
Buddhist sutra. The massive job of producing these printing
blocks, originally built to enlist the protection of the
Buddha from Mongolian invaders, took 16 years and was completed
in 1251.
The storehouse, built in 1398, provides such
ideal ventilation and environmental control that the blocks
remain perfectly preserved to this day.
