The Blue Mountains National Park features breathtaking
scenery. The Blue Mountains derive their name from the fact
that the gum trees release an oil into the air which reacts
with the sunlight to produce a blue haze. Sydney people
have long enjoyed the Blue Mountains as an ideal place to
escape for a few days.
The Blue Mountains can be visited on a day tour, but it
is recommended that visitors allow time for an overnight
stay.
There is a wide selection of accommodation available in
the mountains including top class resort hotels, luxurious
guest houses as well as more moderately priced motels and
bed and breakfast accommodation. The Blue Mountains is famous
for activities such as bushwalking, golf and horse riding.
