THRISSUR :
Thrissur, the name derived from 'Tiru-Shiva-Perur' ,the town
with the name of Lord Shiva, is the cultural capital of Kerala.
The
attraction is Vadakkumnathan Kshetram or temple,which has Shiva as its
deity.Raja Rama Varma, popularly known as Sakthan Thampuran
was the architect of the present Thrissur town. Another very famous attraction
is the Pooram Festival, which is one of the biggest festivals
of Kerala.Pooram Festival starts in March/April features a ceremonial
pageant of over 60 elephants carrying the images of the deities of 23
neighbouring temples.
The Backwaters Of Kerala : The backwaters are the the large
inland lakes of Kerala. The backwaters are the intrigril of Kerala, the
backwater are the arteries
of Kerala. They are the link between remote, isolated villages and crowded
town pockets and water ways of the transport of people and produces. They
add to the beauty of Kerala. The longest streach of the backwater is formed
by the Vembanad Lake which connects Alappuzha to Kochi.
The intricate network of rivers, lakes, canals and lagoons ,with
patches of densely populated lands. The total area covered by the backwaters
lakes is
340 Sq km. The popular site in Kerala one can see , the snake boats loaded
with coconut fiber dried coconut or cashews, the chinese fishing nets
for the days fetch and the colossal of boats sailing on the backwaters.
The Backwaters is a favourite haunt of hundreds of rare migratory birds
from different parts of the world.
The backwater areas of Thiruvananthapuram are Thiruvallam and Veliwhich
are also famous.Other backwaters are Thiruvallam, Veli Tourist Village
(this is between Veli Lagoon and the Arabian Seaand lagoon separated from
the sea by a narrow sand bar), Koolam district,Kuttanad, Backwaters of
Kollam, Backwaters of Alappuzha Backwaters of Kottayam, Backwaters of
Ernakulam,etc,.
