ATTRACTION
St. Francis Church:
The church is 10 km from Ernakulam near Fort Kochi.
Vasco da Gama was buried here in 1524 AD. St. Francis Church was the
first
church to have been built in the new European influenced style and tradition.
The original wooden building of 1510 AD was replaced by the present building
around 1546 AD. It was under the Dutch that the church was renovated and
became protestant in 1663 AD.
Wayanad : Luxuriant plantations of coffee, tea, cardamom,
pepper and rubber are all over the hills of Wayanad. Situated
at a height of 700- 2100m
above sea level, it is bound on the east by the Nilgiris and the Mysore
districts of Tamilnadu and Karnataka respectively. Wayanad shares the
borders with Coorg district of Karnataka on the north, on
the south with Malappuram district and on the west
with Calicut and Cannanore districts. Wayanad was earlier a part
of Kannur district and the Manathavady and Kabini, fast flowing rivers
are asets the beauty of the region.The attraction near the Wayanad are
the Meenmutty Waterfalls 12 kms east of Meppadi, it is a
waterfall cascading in three tiers, own a spectacular height of 500m.
Soochipara Waterfalls is located 2-km into the dense equatorial
forest of Wayanad. Thirunelli Temple is 30 kms north west
of Mananthavadi in the Wayanad district, Thirunelli Temple is known as
the "Kashi of South".
