The Island of Batam is a very strategic island designated
as a center of industry, tourism and trade. Batam lies close
to Singapore and often be as tourist destination. It is
one among Indonesia`s key locations of industrial growth.
The Nongsa recreational region has international hotels,
four golf courses, a marina sports facility and a forest
reserve. The Batam Center is being developed as the administrative
and commercial center of Batam island.
Water Front City offers a wide range of watersports and
entertainment for all the family, including surfing, sailing,
canoeing, cable skiing, jet skiing, indoor snow skiing,
bungee jumping, banana boat and many more excitement.
Enjoy one of the traditional dances from the Riau Archipelago
or an Indonesian cultural show, such as glass- or fire-eating.
At the Batam Center, you will find one of the biggest shopping
centers in Batam. You can also visit the Gateway Duty Free
Shop where you can buy Indonesian Batik, sculpture and other
duty free items.
Visit the traditional city of Batam where the streets are
lined with Duty Free Shops, restaurants, accommodation,
music lounges and cinemas. You will find exotic Indonesian
spices and the renowned jamu (a traditional Indonesia medicine)
at the street markets, and department stores galore.
Getting There and Moving Around
By air
Batam is accessible by flight from Denpasar airport of
Bali which is large, well-organized, and modern. It has
international and domestic flights that consists of inbound
and outbound flights daily to Sumatera and Java and other
cities: Kuta, Legian, Sanur and Nusa Dua, and Ubud.
By sea
Batam can be reached in two hours from Tanjung Pinang by
ferry, and in about half an hour from Singapore.
By road
The bus services are available in Anyar where you can take
buses to the cities or towns nearby. There are also taxi
services around the town.
You may also choose to drive on your own by taking car
rentals or rental of bikes around the town.
Moving Around
It is easy to travel around Batam as it is not very big
and easily accessible by various mode of transport.
