Travel & Tourism . Tourist Guide to the Country

Spain Shopping

El Corte Ingles
The bulldozer of retailing in the whole of Spain, with a department-store monopoly since it swallowed up its only competitor, Galerías Preciados, in 1995. The former Galerías store in Avda Portal de l'Angel, left to gather dust for years, is to reopen as a megastore specialising in music, audio equipment and books.
Not only does El Corte Inglés provide all the goods you expect to find in a department store, you can also have keys cut, shoes re-heeled, hair and beauty treatments carried out, and meals or drinks in the rooftop café. The air-conditioning offers respite from a hot August day. Should there be anything you can't find in the main stores (and you have a car) the company also has a giant hypermarket, Hipercor, in Sagrera on the north side of the city.

Colmado Murria
Located two blocks away from Passeig de Grŕcia you'll find this magnificent Modernista shop with tiled decoration designed by Ramon Casas, stocking a wonderful range of food stuffs and over 300 wines, including their own Cava Murriŕ.
Major credit cards accepted.
Operating hours:1000hrs-1400hrs, 1700hrs-2100hrs (Mon-Sat)

Bulevard dels Antiguaris
Located beside the main Bulevard Rosa fashion mall, this antiques arcade houses 73 shops under one roof. Wares on sale range from fine paintings to ivory, religious artifacts and porcelain dolls. In Turn of the Century, you'll find miniature musical instruments from the 1930s, old jewellery and furniture for dolls' houses.

La Llar del Col.leccionisme
More a bric-a-brac than an antique shop, the 'Home of Collecting' has lots of small items such as old postcards, posters, medals, watches, curios and etc. Owner Jesús Torriente seems to enjoy the company of visitors as much as doing business. Major credit cards are not accepted.

Maremagnum
Come and stroll around Maremagnum and you'll realise there's a lot more to it than just the sea, boats and seagulls. You'll find a huge venue, where you'll have a whale of a time: The Maremagnum cinemas, 8 different halls with the latest films. And right beside it, the most spectacular Aquarium in Europe. And a bit further on, the truly impressive films on show at the Imax Port Vell. Don't miss out on it. The Maremagnum is really worth its Salt.
MAREMAGNUM
ODISEA 2000 - Maremagnum, pl. 2
Moll d´Espanya, s./n.
08039 - BARCELONA
