Thiruvananthapuram
: The capital of the state of Kerala,
Thiruvananthapuram or the City of the Sacred Snake,
is built over seven hills. It is named after Anantha, the
thousand - headed serpent of Hindu mythology, the city once formed a part
of the Travancore kingdom, its capital at Padmanabhapuram, which is now
a part of Tamil Nadu. The famous attraction here is Church popularly known
as Vettukad Church 7 kms from Thiruvananthapuram the original name is
The 'Madre De Deus', attracts thousands of devotees from
all religions. The annual celebration here is called the 'Feast Of Christ,
The King'.
Kovalam : Kovalam beach is known as the "Paradise of
the South" it is warm
and clean by the coconut trees and the white sandbed as the sea breeze
plays with the waves. The place is just 16 kms away from Trivandrum, Kerala's
capital city. Kovalam consists of three small crescent beaches a t many
coastal places there are beautiful patches of coral reefs, strip of golden
sands is laced with the rich greenery of coconut palms and Ayurvedic
massage parlours, yoga centers and water sport facilities,backwaters
makes Kovalam a popular attraction.
Bekal : It is in Kasaragod, the northern most district of
Kerala, Bekal is on
the threshold of becoming a major tourist destination in Kerala. Bekal
is offers health resort that specialises in the rejuvenation
of the mind and the body. The famous plase here are the bekal fort and
Kodi Cliffs. Bekal fort is 300 year oldand is of great historical
value. South Kannada Manual say that the Bekal fort was built by Sivappa
Nayaka of the Ikkeri Dynasty in 1650. But some scholars are of the opinion
that the fort was the handiwork
of the Kolathiris. The fort came under the possession of Haider Ali, the
illustrious ruler of Mysore in 1763 and then it was taken over by the
English East India Company in 1799. Kodi Cliffs, the towering
cliffs is between the Kappil Beach and the Chandragiri Fort. It gives
a panoramic view of the magnificent Bekal Fort. And the Kappil Beach
that is 6 km from Bekal is another attraction.
