Periyar sanctuary:
The periyar sanctuary is also as called, the Thekkady Wildlife
Sanctuary,the best place to the animals in their natural habitat.
Spread over 777 sq.km of the Cardamom Hills of Western Ghats, the Periyar
sanctuary is located 137 km from Madurai. The animal wealth of the santuary
is Elephants, Gaur, Sambhar, tigers, and the most famous the endangoured,
Nilgiri Thar is found here. There are over 260 species of
birds here, near the splendid artificial lake in the sanctuary one can
see herd's of wild elephants who come here to quench their thrust .
MUNNAR :situated at the between three mountain streams namely
Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. Located at trhe altitudeof
1600mabove
the sea level. It was the the summer resort of the British government
in South India.Munnar also has the highest peak in south
India, Anamudi, which towers over 2695 m.6 km from Munnar
is another attraction Pothamedu , the place where coffee,
Tea and Cardamom plantations enchants the view of Pothamedu. Marayooris
is a place 40 kms from Munnar ,the only place in Kerala that has a natural
growth of sandalwood trees. the place near the Marayooris Thoovanam waterfalls
and Rajiv Gandhi National Park .
Sabarimala : The place were holy shrine is dedicated to
Lord Ayyappai. It pilgrim centre atop the rugged hills of the
Western Ghats and the sanctum sanctoram
nestles 914 m above sea level. Village of Sabarimala is named after Shabari
who did severe penance in order to meet Rama. Sabarimala is most
important hindu temple of Kerala. The Sabarimala Temple festival is celebrated
in honour of Lord Ayyapan. There are two main pujas called the Mandal
Puja and the Makara Sankranti Puja, which are celebrated
from November to Middle of January in Kerala, during which time the devotees
perform austerities and penance. People from all caste ,creedwho come
for the festival have to they wear black dhotis and carry on their heads,
bundles containing traditional offerings like coconut filled with ghee,
camphor and rice.
