This place is newly opened to the foreigners, the Golden
Rock of Kyaikhtiyo is the most visited sight in Myanmar's
intra-tourism. The Golden Rock Pagoda is a huge gold-plated
boulder poised on the edge of a steep cliff with a delicate
pagoda on top of the rock.
Legend has it that a hair of Buddha holds the Rock in balance.
To visit the Rock, you have to hike 11 km uphill. You may
also use open minitrucks but for the final 4 km, you have
to walk or hire sedan chairs.
There is an entrance fee of USD 6 and another fee of USD
6 if you want to take pictures. You may also hire a porter,
for only USD 4, for the long walk so that you don't get
lost.
